Hello! Welcome to The Learning Well Reading Academy, "Where There's a Thirst for Reading!" My name is Chanel Fowler and I will be your child's online reading tutor. I am a board certified teacher for over 20 years in early childhood education. I have a master's degree in education with a certification in Special Reading K-12. I am very excited about working with each and every child in becoming, successful life-long readers. My mission is to improve your child's confidence in reading one book at a time. I would love to have you become a part of my reading family!

Preschool Program

In the preschool program their sessions will last 30 minutes. We will learn letters/ letter sound recognition, beginning phonics, and easy sight words. I will have my puppet friends visit from time to time to help with story time.

Kdg./1st/2nd Grade Program

In the Kdg.-2nd grade program there are two session options offered. You can choose a 30 or 60 minute session. Your child will get letters/ letter sound recognition, phonics & sight words. They will also learn word attack skills, guided reading, and comprehension.

3rd/4th/5th Grade Program

In the 3rd-5th grade program there are two session options offered. You can choose a 30 or 60 minute session. Your child will be exposed to spelling and grammar. But they will also make significant gains with fluency, comprehension, and long-word decoding skills needed to read longer books with ease.

Koala Go

Koala Go is a video conferencing tool that I will use for your child's tutoring sessions. Koala Go is similar to Zoom but designed for children.

Calendly

Calendly is a business management tool that allows you to schedule, reschedule, and make payments all in one place. Email and text reminders are sent through Calendly.

Raz-Plus

Raz-Plus is an award winning website where students can go and read interactively anytime & anywhere. Raz-Plus delivers hundreds of interactive, leveled e-books spanning 29 levels.

What is The Learning Well Reading Academy?

The Learning Well Reading Academy is an online tutoring experience that will ensure the development of phonological awareness (letter & sound connections), exposure & repetition of frequent words & various spellings, advancement of fluency & oral expression through engaging text, focuses on comprehension & critical thinking skills in your child. 

How do I schedule/ make payments for my child's tutoring sessions?

You will schedule your tutoring sessions, reschedule, get text message alerts, and email reminders, and make payments all through Calendly. Calendly is a business management tool that handles all of this using my website. So just click on, "Getting Started" to learn more.

What is your tutoring policy?

No one will lose their money just because they didn't cancel within 24 hours. Unforeseen things happen so I am flexible with my reading family on a case-by-case basis. I would like to be given 24 hours notice, but you will still be allowed to reschedule for the session you paid for. 

What are the technology requirements?

You would need to have access to an Apple iPad, or an Apple Macbook, or a Google Chromebook or any Desktop PC Computer. You will also need a wireless internet connection, and a front facing camera. *Please do not use an Android Tablet or a cell phone. These devices are not supported on this platform.

How often should my child receive tutoring?

How often your child receives tutoring is totally up to you. But understand that learning to read effectively is a process. It takes time, consistency and dedication to see any results. I would recommend 1 or 2 times a week for 4 to 5 weeks for the best results.

Can I participate in my child's tutoring sessions?

There are times when I will need to conference with parent and child. But for your child's tutoring experience you will not be allowed to participate in our one-on-one sessions. Including the actual assessment.

Are the consultations free?

The consultations are free when you decide that you want me to tutor your child. A commitment of 1 or 2 times a week for a 2 week tutoring session. The consultations include a quick "Getting to Know You" session, followed by a reading assessment that I will administer to your child. I will end the consultation with the results of your child's assessment. Consultations are 30 minutes and are never on the same day as the tutoring session.

Will my child receive a progress report throughout the tutoring process?

Yes. You will receive a progress report at the end of every month on your child's reading growth, and the reading skills that they might still need to work on. I will also inform you of what skills we covered at the end of each week in Calendly. With Raz-Plus you will get a daily report on your child's progress.

If you are interested in starting your child's reading success journey, follow these steps:
  • Step 1- Pick a day and time for the consultation/ assessment
  • Step 2- Pick a day and time for the actual tutoring session. (The date has to be any day after the date of the consultation/ assessment)
  • Step 3- Make your payment. Then return to the homepage.
  • Step 4- Please fill out the "Parent Questionnaire." Your answers will automatically be sent to my email. After reading your questionnaire I will contact you to discuss the next steps. You can also call or email me.

Why do you suggest 5 week sessions (1 to 2 times) a week?

I suggested 5 week sessions (1 or 2) times a week because normally your child will receive a progress report, from their classroom teacher, within 4 to 5 weeks from the first day of school. So that is a good time frame for you to be able to also see some progress with our tutoring sessions.

What can clients expect of me?

A client can expect that I will be a loving and patient tutor.  I will be respectful and understanding of your worries when it comes to your child's reading struggles. The client can count on me to deliver the strategies of reading in a
clear and concise manner, where the student can grasp the information quickly and easily.
